WINDOW SEAT PROJECT

This project started with the curtains, which are made from duvet covers purchased at Ikea.  It was very simple to sew the duvet closed at the top and add a row of stitching to create a pocket for the curtain rod.    Using a duvet cover automatically gave me lined curtains.

Using the curtain fabric as a color guide, we found fabric that complemented the design to create a new window seat and recover the dining room chairs.

Step 1:   Cut a layer of upholstery foam and add to top of  window seat board

Steps 2 and 3:  Add layer of batting over upholstery foam.  Using a staple gun, staple the fabric to the front.

Step 4:  Flip the fabric over the soft layers, pull and tuck edges under at the open edge of the fabric and fasten to the window seat board using upholstery tacks with round heads.

The final project included a small quilt for the dogs to sit on (so it can be thrown in the washing machine), and matching pillows.  The pillow with the buttons is one I created using the pillow sham that came with the duvet covers that I used for curtains.
